AZINHAGA

Azinhaga is a parish in the municipality of Golegã where José Saramago was born the Nobel Prize for Literature. The oldest document known to Azinhaga is the charter granted by D. Sancho II, so its existence dates back to the beginnings of Portuguese nationality.

Our Guesthouse in the countryfield is an excellent place to rest and enjoy the nature. It is also a good place to rest from the Santiago Way, since we are located in the way.

If its name, Azinhaga, comes from the Arabic az-zanqa which means narrow path, narrow alley between hills, heaths or valleys, then its antiquity is more remote and prior to the founding of the Kingdom of Portugal.
